Posts

Since I probably won't be able to post tomorrow, and I won't be working Thursday, I am going to post my normal beginning of the month event list for September.

Ooo, pretty.

I bought a bunch of fabric yesterday and recovered our dining room chair cushions. It's an orange background with different colored dragonflies all over it. How CUTE. I also got fabric for a cushion for the wicker settee (green faux suede, ooo!) and for more throw pillows (one can never have too many throw pillows). Since my sewing machine quit, I must rely on Mar to do the sewing for me. I don't think I want to attempt using fabric glue.
I had a really great idea for a wall decoration in the extra room (or "KD/baby room") that includes lots of streaming ribbons. The only problem is I couldn't find just the exact ribbon I wanted. Phooey.
We're excited about fixing up the extra room - well, I say we . . . Brian's excited to hang things on the wall and I'm excited about fabrics and colors. It will be BEAUTIFULS. We were thinking about investing in a bunk bed to maximize our space, but really . . . I don't think we'll be getting kids old enough to be on a top bunk anyway. So we're just waiting on getting a mattress, but then we'll be able to get everything else set up.
Alright, I must start closing the books for August. Joy!

Weekend

On Saturday, after Brian's long day at work and after my shopping trip with Elizabeth, we picked up Bohnsack and headed down to the German American Festival. We met up with Kelly & Craig and then later we found Jennifer & Kevin. We had a really good time - of course, everything is more fun with Kelly around! After Brian tripped face first into a ditch full of green sludge, we drove home . . . with all of the windows down. He was one smelly boy.
Brian worked yesterday too, for about 5 hours and then we took a little nap and ran errands. Attempted to get a bed from Eric's old house and once we got there, found out Mar had given us the house key to Gramma's house instead. Anyway, we finished our errands (6 loads of laundry) and went to Jed's for supper. Mmm ... Chong Balls. Very sweet and sour-y!
This morning I slept until 915 and kept feeling like I was playing hooky, since I didn't have to go to the lab. I got some stuff done and ran to Target - nothing I needed was on sale! So now I'm eating my candy necklace, waiting for something to happen here at work.
THE END.

Heheheheh

Happiness is a warm gun...

... at least that's what the Beatles said.

Anyway, today was my LAST day at the lab! Yay! I am so happy. Well, I guess it wasn't my last day EVER, because my boss asked me to come in one Saturday a month to work on spreadsheets ... and I didn't really want to, but she offered me $20/hr. So I couldn't really pass that up, could I. No, I couldn't.
This is going to be a good weekend, I think. Tonight we are going to Mar and Dad's, tomorrow we are taking Bethie to the Build-A-Bear-Workshop for her birthday and I think Sunday we are going to the German American Festival (crap). But NEXT WEEKEND ... KD is coming to stay! FOREVER. Well . . . just for the weekend. But maybe she will decide she wants to go to school here, and she can live with us for the low, low price of $79.99 a month! Aw that would be fabulous.
Okay, tons more work to do, but first I have to remove the apple skin from my tooth.

New post

Brian and I looked at a house the other day in Perrysburg that we really like. It's kind've country-ish, but actually just down the road from a big shopping area. It's blue and white and Brian is already talking about putting up a white picket fence! It's in our price range, which is nice, but it only has 2 bedrooms . . . however, there is an extra room that could possibly be turned into a bedroom. 2 full baths, 2 car garage and an extra lot.
We also looked at the house in Point Place . . . the inside needs work, just new flooring in the bath and kitchen, new carpet and paint. The only drawback is there is hardly a yard at all - it's all house, concrete slab, and big garage. The location is nice - it's quiet and all one has to do is walk over the hill in the front of the house and right there's the lake.
Tonight we're having Bethany over for her birthday and we might be getting together with Bohnsack this week - he's got the whole week off work. And I think Mar and Dad are coming for dinner on Friday night to celebrate my last day at the lab. Yay! Maybe they will buy us ice creams!

Well, the last few days have been not-so-nice. We're trying to figure out a lot of stuff and making some difficult decisions about money, kids, jobs, etc. Coming up with cost-cutting ideas has probably been the hardest thing. We'll be giving up at least one of our cellphones - maybe both, depending on if we can get a home phone for cheaper than just one of our cellphones would cost. Also I'm going to try to sell my car and get something else, probably an older model Honda. We turned off our a/c last night and hope we'll be able to go the rest of the summer without having to turn it back on. We've got a fan, 3 windows and a screen door, so we'll see how it goes. I think we'll be taking a lot of cold showers! Aaaannnnddd . . . tonight after work we're going out to Point Place to look at a house . . . some guy at Dillin owns it and he and his wife would like to rent it to us for $75 less a month than we're paying right now. I'm not sure if we'll be able to get out of our lease or not, but there's no harm in trying.
So we're just praying everything works out . . . the thing we have to keep in mind is praying that it works out for God's glory, not just so we're happy . . . it can be difficult to keep that perspective - but we're trying!

O, happy day!

Yesterday I gave my employer my two weeks' notice. I cannot express how thrilled I am. My boss was super nice about it, too. She said she'd wait a while before hiring anyone else in case I changed my mind, and asked if maybe I would be willing to come in on a few Saturdays to help her with spreadsheets and things like that. I had been wanting to quit for a while now, but with everything that was going on, we figured it'd be better if I waited. Well, I was miserable last week, so I talked to Al and he said that I could work as many hours here as I want, and that if I wanted him to, he'd pay for me to go to real estate school. How great is that! It's a wonderful opportunity, but I am not going to commit to that just yet. We are going to see how September goes, with me just having the one job, to see if we can afford it, and we're also taking our foster parent classes the whole month. If I get my license, there would be an extra expense of $100/mo just to keep the license current and valid. So we'll see how September goes . . . I can always take the classes in October or November if we decide that's what I should do. I think it will mostly depend on how soon we'd be able to get our foster children - I certainly don't want to be working 24/7 once we have kids.
So that's our good news!
Oh, and Brandon said we could have their old computer! Yay! A computer at home! Now we just have to find a way to get it from Philly!

Baby

Congratulations to Jordan and Allison!
Molly Jo was born on Thursday, August 11!

Oh!

Happy birthday, Franklin!!

It's Friday!

I am so happy today is Friday. Brian and I are both getting off work @ 230 today so we can spend some extra time together. Since he's been back @ Dillin, he's been working about 60 or so hours a week and we haven't had a lot of time together. I think we are going to dinner (Texas Roadhouse, perhaps!) and either window shopping or a cheap movie. (Mmm . . . cheap movie theatre popcorns . . . ).
Tonight Mindy and Brandon are getting into town, and tomorrow morning they are coming to our house for brunch! Brian will be at work, but we will still have a lovely brunch. Then Papa's 80th birthday party and Sunday we are going out to Lyons with Bonnie to her sister's house for an outdoor worship service.
Some good things are finally happening, but I'll update on that next week when stuff is all sorted out!
Only 45 minutes left!

Congratulations to Cory and Joanie on the arrival of baby Brock!

Home

We're starting to get a few more things for our home. We're picking up a chest of drawers and a dresser tonight that we bought, and hopefully within a few weeks we'll be able to get our washer & dryer. (Spending $20 bucks a week at the laundromat sucks.) It's been so much fun picking things out together and making our house a real home. It'll be even better when we can pick out beds and books and clothes for the foster children we're hoping to get. We'll have to get a lot more organized and do a lot of re-arranging, but we have the room. We're really excited and can't wait to take our foster parent classes!

Jennifer and Kevin

Congrats to Jennifer & Kevin!
Jonathan's sister had her baby on Saturday . . .
Wolfgang Rainier Clark.

Well if that ain't a mouthful . . .

Doctors

I waited 2 hours to see my doctor this morning . . . thankfully she said everything seemed to be okay, but next month I will have to have some tests done if things aren't as they're supposed to be. It's been kind've hard since we don't have insurance now, but today only cost $128 - we thought it'd be a lot more. I just hope I don't end up having to get those tests done, because that'll be so much more, plus I'll have to see another doctor. Yuck.

Oooo...

Mindy and Brandon are coming home this weekend for Papa's birthday party! Only for like 24 hrs, but they are coming home! And Brent and Erin are coming! Yay!

Weekend

Our weekend went by super-fast . . . Brian didn't get home on Saturday until about 1, and I had a big birthday lunch waiting for him. He opened all of his presents and then we took a nap. (I had gotten up @ 5am with him and hadn't fallen back to sleep! I did manage to get a ton of errands done, though!) After that we picked up Chad and went out to Mar's so she could give Brian his gift, and then we headed down to the Rib-Off to meet up with Bohnsack. Delicious ribs and funnel cakes were had by all. Then we went to the Durty Bird and Frickers... and we attempted going to Bijou, but a private party had it rented.
Anyway . . . Sunday we went on a picnic with the boys out to Maumee Bay - it was so nice. We hung out with Mar for a while and then went to see Wedding Crashers - absolutely HYSTERICAL. Crude and without morals, but funny nonetheless. (That's so sad.)
Last night after work we went down to Adele's and had pizza & cake with her and Bonnie G. It was nice catching up with them. Bonnie is moving soon and we will miss her dreadfully.
So tonight we are going out to Mar's, then to G&G's - it's been a week since we've been there and I have not even called my Grammy. I am an awful granddaughter.
I'm here @ Noral by myself and it's nice and quiet upstairs. I have a bunch of work to do today, but I am also attempting to find a replacement job (not for this job - I love it too much to leave), so Bonnie and I will be spending some time on that, too.
Okay, back to work.

Dinner on the Docks

Tonight Fred & Vicki are taking us to the Navy Bistro for an anniversary dinner!

Tuesday, August 02, 2005

Oh yeah . . .

. . . last night my father-in-law took me for a ride in his Cobra (convertible) after the car show. Let me just say that this car is SUPER fast. My favorite part was when I heard the super-charger whine and then I was pinned back into my seat - lol. It was nice father-daughter bonding time for us.

Brian's Birthday

B's birthday is this Saturday! He will be old! I am so excited about his birthday . . . well, I am excited about the gifts I bought for him. He thinks he knows, but he doesn't! He has to work that morning until noon, but then we are going to have a fabulous day. We are going to go to the Rib-Off and then go dancing and have a few drinks!

So much to do, so little time . . .

Since there is little to do at work today, I have been doing a bit a of Internet research on a few things. I didn't really come up with a whole lot of stuff, but I did find an awesome purse design with beads and feathers! I am also trying to register for a few classes - Belly Dancing 1 & 2, the same stained glass panel class Mar and I took last year and another jewelry class. I am also interested in taking their EKG Technician class, but it's $600, so I probably won't take it this Fall. Perhaps if they offer it in the Spring.
I also got some information on the Foster/Adoptive Parent training classes for Lucas County. They started mid-September and are every Saturday until the end of October. There are 3 sets of siblings that Brian & I are interested in - 2 are in Lucas Co and the other is in Trumball Co (which I believe is near Columbus). 1 girl, 1 boy in each group, all around the same ages (2-7). Once we go through the training, we arrange for a homestudy to be done and they interview us and our references. After that's done, then we just have to wait! So it's possible we could have some little kids running around at Christmas - not too likely - but POSSIBLE! It all depends on how soon we can get a homestudy and our financial status. But just the thought is exciting and we're praying about it.

Update

Gramma went home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, after having been there since early Wednesday morning. After flatlining, her left lung also collapsed and she ran a fever on Saturday. She's on medication and hopefully RESTING (but if I know my grandmother, she's probably cleaning out the attic). Anyways, we spent most of the last few days in the hospital with her, but now Tia is in town, so she will be able to help take care of everything the next two weeks or so.
Saturday night we went to the All Saint's Festival in Rossford. The festival itself was okay, but after that we went to Moe's (Brian's old stomping ground) and hung out waaaay too long (because of CHAD). Then yesterday we took the dogs for a long car ride and went to the Mud Hen's game... went to Grammy's to visit and see the kitties (we want Jolian and June! and Somes and Besseni and Ireni! lol) and had supper with Mar. Anyway, not much sleep was had this weekend!
Tonight we are going to the car show in Mayberry!
